I have reacently started making my own objects out of leather. I have been trying to use the same visual language of that of my drawings. Which combine a dense variety of intricate patterns. The bright flat even colours are reflective of my screen prints and the dyed leather more related to my ink drawings. I have used a selection of different types of leather appropriate for the different techniques applied to them as listed below. Photography by Lucy Arup.

Skived, Dyed and Moulded Veg Tanned Calf Skin layered in a spiral, mimiking natures radial symetry.

Pinapple Base using pre dyed Fish Skin.

The beginings of a Veg tanned calf skin pomegranate half. To be Dyed. Moulded.

Calf Nappa Bananas, patterns made from real fruit to give a convincing likeness.

Lamb Nappa Grapes large and small. Pre dyed. Moulded, individually stitiched, Whipped round to fasten, cut, chain stitched together.

Cookie Monster Cupcakes

Last weekend I made these cookie monster cupcakes

To make 12 cupcakes you will need:

12 muffin cases
A muffin tray

150g caster sugar
150g self raising flour
150g butter
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla essence

for the icing:
75g softened butter
150g icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
as much blue food colouring as it takes to get the right colour
Decicated coconut dyed blue with food colouring
24 white chocolate buttons
24 dark chocolate chips
12 medium sized cookies

Methood:

Preheat oven to 180 degrees C or 160 for fan assisted oven.
mix together the caster sugar and butter till light and pale. Beat in the eggs and sift in the flour. Then add the vanilla essence. Spoon the mixture into the muffin cases and bake for 15- 20 minutes untill golden.

While the cupcakes are baking beat the softened butter and icing sugar together untill smooth. Add the food colouring a teaspoon at a time untill you achieve a brilliant blue.

Put the decicated coconut in a freezer bag and add a small amount of blue food colouring and mix around till the coconut absorbs the food colouring. Keep adding food colouring untill the coconut is a bright blue.

Once the cupcakes are ready leave to cool on a rack.

When the cupcakes have cooled start to decorate them with the icing. Sprinkle with the coloured coconut. Glue together the chocolate buttons and chocolate chips with a small amount of the icing and place next to eachother on the top of the cupcake. Then add a cookie in place of the mouth.

Frinton Press is a new collaborative outfit set up by London based Illustrators Cissy Baille and Patrick Saville

My design was selected for their first project, a limited edition booklet of hand screen printed wrapping papers along with fifteen others. The wrapping paper was sold at NO:ID Gallery in Whitechapel, Stour Space art space in Hackney and Print Club's Pop up Shop on Brick Lane.
